Are your students curious about Computer Science, Cyber Security, Business & Technology, Mathematics, or Games Programming? Sheffield Hallam University is hosting a Festival of Computing & Mathematics—a series of exciting subject taster days designed to give students hands-on experience and insight into these dynamic fields.
Each taster day aligns with our student and employer showcase events, giving attendees the chance to:
✅ Engage in interactive subject-specific activities
✅ Meet students and see their work in action
✅ Explore career pathways with industry connections
📅 Event Schedule:
🗓 7th May – Computer Science & Software Engineering Taster day 10:00 – 14:30
This taster day introduces AI programming fundamentals with Microbits, explores Python programming through Caesar’s Cipher, and provides an opportunity for visitors to engage with the Computer Science and Software Engineering showcase event.
🗓 12th May – Business & Technology Taster day 10:00 – 14:30
An exciting Business & Technology Festival Day, where you’ll gain valuable insights, hear from students who are now working in industry, and experience how business can be driven by technology.
🗓 13th May – Mathematics Taster day 10:00 – 14:30
Maths has a vital role in the modern world, driving developments in technology, science and society which contribute to solving global problems. Maths is a diverse and interesting story with cultural and historical links around the world. Come and join in with workshops on mathematical modelling and problem solving which show how mathematicians work and how mathematics is applied to the world around us! A special visit to the Degree Showcase will offer a chance to see some work from current students and to meet graduates and hear about their careers.
🗓 15th May – Cyber Security Taster day 10:00 – 14:30
Join us for day and experience our Cyber Security showcase. The day opens with a welcome talk which looks at cyber security and digital forensics, careers in cyber security and digital forensics, and the pathways for young people in these professions. Next is a cyber security masterclass where you can learn some concepts of ethical hacking and then put these skills to the test. After all that hard work it will be time to reenergise during lunch where there is also an opportunity to walk around our cyber security and cyber security with forensics final year student project presentations where you can talk to our students about their projects, being a student, and studying at Sheffield Hallam. After lunch it is back to the digital forensic labs where you will be a digital forensic investigator for the afternoon, examining a range of files in order to uncover the truth of the investigation.
🗓 16th May – Computer Games programming Taster Day 10:00 – 14:30
Join us for a taster day that introduces you to key elements of games programming through interactive and hands-on sessions. During the day, you’ll also get to experience the showcase of work that is being demonstrated by our students as part of their Game Over 2025 showcase.
These taster days are a fantastic way for students to gain hands-on experience and explore future study and career opportunities.
